Two Important Concluding Thoughts
The heart of the role in two truths: the MD must be deeply connected to the team (ministry is 80% people, 20% music), and the number-one reason for the position is to make disciples — all flowing from a strong relationship with Jesus.
As we close, two things matter more than any technique in this course.
1. Connect with the team
It’s not enough that you connect with your team — your MD must be deeply connected to the band, leading them not only musically but spiritually and through the challenges of life. The role is more about people than decisions on a console.
Ministry is 80% people and 20% music. What your MD does musically matters — but what they do with people matters more.
Stepping into this leadership means bearing real weight, and being connected is what lets the MD rejoice with people and walk them through hard times. Sometimes you and your MD just have to take a step of faith — Mike’s own MD didn’t think he was a leader or influential, and turned out to be both, in a big way.
2. Make disciples
This is the number-one reason the MD position exists. It’s a line of defense so people don’t fall through the cracks — something you, carrying everything else, could never fully be on your own. God genuinely cares about excellence — but more than that, He cares about His people, and about all of you worshiping Him in spirit and in truth.
The key under both of these is the same: a strong relationship with Jesus. If you reiterate one thing from this whole course, reiterate that.
